That would be pretty damn politically awesome, actually - given that the economic survival of rural America relies so very strongly on Federal subsidies.
A shame for their children, but the adults would deserve the misery.
Those rugged, uber-Americana individualists. Ruggedly pretending that they aren’t the beneficiaries of one of the most overtly socialist programs in America.

However, this simply won’t go anywhere. To split a state requires the consent of the state. In addition, this portion of Colorado is doing measurably worse than the rest of the state on average:

They are being subsidized by the Denver-Boulder-Fort Collins area.

Heck, folks in the UP (Upper Peninsula of Michigan) talk about breaking off into the 51st state every ten years or so.
